MC Command Generator

/gamemode Command Generator

Beta

Pick a game mode and who it applies to. The generator writes the full mode name, which every version reads, and the preview shows the HUD of that mode.

Describe it — AI writes the command

Type what you want in plain words. The AI fills the form below, so you can see it and change anything. It follows the edition and version you picked.

/gamemode creative @a

Raw editor

How it works

/gamemode takes a mode and an optional target. Without a target it changes your own mode.

Java 1.13 and later

gamemode creative @a
gamemode spectator @p

Only the full names work. Numbers (gamemode 1) and letters (gamemode c) stopped working in 1.13.

Java 1.8 to 1.12

Names, numbers (0–3) and letters all work; the generator writes names so the command keeps working when you update.

Bedrock

gamemode creative @a
gamemode default @p

Bedrock also reads letters and numbers, and has a default mode: the world's default. Spectator was experimental in older Bedrock releases.

FAQ

Why does /gamemode 1 not work?

Java 1.13 removed the numbers and letters. Write gamemode creative. Bedrock still reads gamemode 1 and gamemode c.

How do I change everyone's game mode?

Use the @a selector: gamemode survival @a. To exclude yourself: gamemode survival @a[name=!YourName].

What is adventure mode for?

Maps. Players can't break or place blocks unless their tool allows it (can_break / can_place_on), so they can't wreck your build.

Is there a default game mode on Java?

Not as a /gamemode option — gamemode default is Bedrock only. On Java, /defaultgamemode sets the mode new players get.

Do I need cheats on?

Yes. /gamemode needs cheats (Bedrock) or operator permission level 2 (Java).
