How it works
Chunks are 16 × 16 block columns. Force-loaded chunks keep running (farms, redstone, mobs) when nobody is near. You type block coordinates; the generator works out which chunks they fall in.
Java 1.13.1 and later
forceload add 0 0 47 47 forceload remove 0 0 forceload remove all forceload query 100 -20
One command loads at most 256 chunks. The chunks stay force-loaded after a restart until you remove them.
Bedrock: ticking areas
tickingarea add 0 0 0 47 0 47 spawn_farm tickingarea remove spawn_farm tickingarea remove_all tickingarea list
A world holds at most 10 ticking areas, each up to 100 chunks. The y coordinate is ignored.
FAQ
How many chunks can I force load?
Java takes up to 256 chunks per /forceload command (you can run several). Bedrock allows 10 ticking areas of up to 100 chunks each.
Do force-loaded chunks grow crops and spawn mobs?
On Java, force-loaded chunks tick blocks and entities, but random ticks (crop growth) and mob spawning need a player within 128 blocks. Bedrock ticking areas tick blocks and entities.
Does /forceload work on Bedrock?
No — Bedrock uses /tickingarea instead. Switch the edition and the generator writes it.
How do I see which chunks are force-loaded?
Java: forceload query lists them (or checks one chunk with coordinates). Bedrock: tickingarea list.
Why does /forceload not exist in my 1.13 world?
It was added in Java 1.13.1. Update to 1.13.1 or later.
